29. Forget the pain ***

27. Most important key factor ***

One day you will understand that birth, aging, being sick and death are all parts of life. You think you are very healthy but your body may not agree with you. You can’t escape your destiny if you have cancer. At this very moment your most important thing to help you get well, in addition to your medicine, is your attitude.

28. Attitude can affect your life ***

Your attitude can affect your life. If you are positive, everything will turn out to be fine, but if you are negative, nothing will seem to work. You control your attitude. Time eventually will heal all wounds, and all troubles will disappear.

You will find ways to help yourself to survive. As long as your doctor takes proper care of you, you don’t need to worry excessively.

26. Life has a deadline ***

Life has a deadline. Aim to finish those things that you always wanted to do with deliberate speed. Don’t bury your personal goal inside you. You should invest your best efforts to realize your goal; otherwise once you miss the window, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. Go and make your wish come true right now.

19. Bursting into tears ***

Bursting into tears will not make your current situation any better. Your crying will make your enemy -- the illness -- feel happy. Why do you cry if it makes your enemy the illness happy? Why don’t you be happy and ignore your enemy the illness? Close your eyes and look at the bright side of things. Enjoy a moment of peace and make yourself a little bit more relaxed.

11. Move Forward ***

Life is like walking. You have to continue walking even though the road is rough. The condition of the road may slow you down. Think about what’s ahead of you.

9. Do not worry excessively ***

Don’t worry and don’t be sad. Your doctor knows how to cure your illness. Although going through an operation to eliminate a growth is painful, it is worth doing that. It is worthwhile to go through the miserable experience of chemotherapy procedure. Such procedures will bring back your good health.

7. Unhappy mood ***

Life has its ups and downs. Wealth can drift away from the rich and leave them poor. Adversity seems to be everywhere along your road of life. Sometimes there is no way to avoid being sick and suffering from the pain of such illness. No wonder you may feel unhappy and hopeless. In this situation, what you need the most is to look for the comfort that your family members can provide to you.

8. The Almighty doesn’t dictate this outcome ***

Sometimes you may think the world is unfair to you as if someone in heaven is controlling your destiny. Although you have already done your best to take good care of your health and you think you should be able to avoid a serous sickness, you still end up with cancer. There is no benefit in complaining about this situation. The best you can do is to accept reality.

5. Lightning in a blue sky ***

Who can understand how you go through your life when you are living in a place with frequent lightning even in a blue sky. You are convinced that you are careful about what you eat, you exercise everyday, and you don’t drink and don’t smoke but you don’t understand why you end up afflicted with cancer. Is it because Almighty God is being unfair to you or you might have done something bad in your previous life and you are here in this life to pay back your debt?

6. No need to feel guilty ***

Don’t look back but look forward. Being sick doesn’t mean you have done something wrong and you are a criminal. You may blame yourself for lack of doing exercises but don’t forget even athletes get sick too. Also children can be afflicted with cancer. What crime have they done? The word cancer scares people to death. When a patient first hears of the word cancer, he/she wants to cry but has no tears. Such news is shattering and makes him/her speechless. It is understandable that he/she feels like being on a dead end road. Subsequently he/she feels he/she is responsible for the cause of the disease and tears flow unchecked. Due to personal health issue, no advice will be published from December 7, 2011. I received many emails and thank you for your caring message. Hopefully I shall be able to offer more advice next year

Money may not be everything ***

It doesn’t matter how much money you may have. What is more important is your attitude. If you have plenty of money but you don’t have happiness, your days will not be joyful days. By contrast, if you are open-minded and optimistic and don’t care what kind of meals you may have, I am sure your days will be full of joy and happiness.

Cheap clothes ***

Cheap clothes can also keep you warm and simple meals can make you full too. Comparing what you have to named brand clothes and rich meals, you may think that the world is not fair. The truth of the matter is that, what is better is not what you see but what comes from within you.

Due to personal health issue, temporarily no advice will be published from
December 7, 2011.

Life’s experience ***

We came to this world with two empty hands and will leave this world with two empty hands too. What we have gained in this life is our life’s experience. What we should do is to bequeath our experience to coming generations. The sooner we contribute such experiences to our society, the sooner people can learn from them. With the knowledge gained, they can put them to good use and better themselves.

We are all born with talents ***

We are all born with talents. Look at some handicapped people. They are successful and can take good care of themselves. We are healthy. Therefore we have no excuse, but should be content with what we have, and work hard striving to make a living. As long as we work diligently, we will have a relaxing and happy life.

A mortal world ***

Living in this world is like having a dream in the spring. There is no point in complaining with mixed emotions. Don’t go back to past experiences since they no longer exist. They are like fallen flower petals flowing away on river currents, and they will never return. There is a saying that no flowers can blossom forever. Life is the same. There are ups and downs.

Experiences ***

There are many life events that occur which you don’t know how to treasure. Only after you have had a bad experience, then you begin to value them. You don’t know how valuable life is, until you have been seriously ill. You don’t know how valuable a relationship is until you have lost it. You begin to value your job more, after you have had the experience not being able to find a job.

If things do not belong to you, you must give them up. If you force yourself to fight for it, you may end up getting seriously hurt. There are times when you need to give up certain things. Give up your prejudices, personal hatreds and excessive demands for luxurious items. If you can do that, you will have a more relaxing life.

Daily Advice November 25, 2011

November 25, 2011

Karma ***

We know the rule of cause and effect. Yet who knows what karma is. We should know whatever we do, whether it is good or bad. Someday it will come back to haunt us. If we continue to do good deeds, we may be rewarded with fame. If we do things that are injurious to others, we ultimately will get hurt. Who knows what your karma is. But it is stupid if you do something that you know it is wrong. If you are in the middle of doing something wrong, reverse course before you are overtaken by misfortune.

Spend more time with your family ***

When you leave this world, you cannot take your wealth with you. Therefore there is no need to spend too much time on wealth and fame. You cannot avoid having to relinquish wealth and fame after death. Why don’t you look at your life and ask yourself why are you working so hard and for what? Most people’s goal in life is to protect their family and make sure they have a good life. If so, spend more time with your family.

Don’t be afraid of being at a disadvantage ***

Don’t be afraid of being at a disadvantage even if someone forces you to work overtime with no pay. Sometimes, you shouldn’t be overly concerned because of suffering some minor losses. Such action can enhance the road to future prospects. By then, you will have your reward.

Everybody has some knowledge of everything but if your knowledge is abstract and you never practice what you know, it means you don’t have the required knowledge to perform the job. However, if you have the required knowledge but you are lack of confidence, you still won’t be able to perform the job. Therefore you must have both knowledge and confidence to do a good job.

Therefore, there is no need to show off by fighting with people.

Disagreement ***

Whenever there is any disagreement, there is no point in losing your temper. This type of behavior will only make things worse. The best way to handle this situation is to focus on the opinion not the people. If you cannot reach an agreement with your opponent, find another way to continue the discussion in a peaceful manner.

Listen with full attention ***

Dealing with a patient’s complaints is one of the most difficult tasks. When your patient is full of complaints and anger, and utters words of giving up his/her life even though there is hope of recovery, silence is your best response. What you can do is to listen to them with sympathy and they will feel better.

Helping people is a good character trait ***

Helping people is a good character trait. If you help people to solve their problems, fulfill their dreams, encourage them to move forward to seek their happiness and yet don’t expect anything in return – and in addition -- if you are willing to perform such good deeds daily; you are in fact a noble person.

Being at ease is good enough ***

It isn’t difficult to be a good person with exemplary moral values. As long as you are willing to perform good deeds, you will feel at peace, even if no one may praise you for doing it. Absence of such praise doesn’t mean you lack good morals. You shouldn’t care how people look at you as long as you feel peaceful. That’s good enough.

Being indecisive ***

Being indecisive won’t help you deliver anything. Although deep thinking may be good, being excessive suspicious makes you hesitate to take the first step. Because of this, you may miss a golden opportunity. You could have a chance to succeed but you mess it up and end up achieving nothing.

Don’t take it all ***

Don’t force people into a corner from which they cannot escape. Always leave room for negotiation. Don’t show off all you have, otherwise you may get yourself into trouble. Don’t claim all the credits but share them with people. Don’t take advantage to the fullest. You can’t be lucky at all times.

Reconcile with your family members ***

Take advantage while you still have spirits and get together with your family members. Forgive each other a little and let go of the misunderstanding. Everyone moves on living peacefully together.

Why bother to put on a sad face? ***

You may choose to be worried. Being worried only aggravates the load on yourself. It doesn’t do your body any good but destroys your mood. Your mood may affect every family member of yours and make them worried about you. As a result, the whole family will have a sad face. Why do you bother to wear a sad face?

Ups and downs in life ***

Life is like a play. It has its ups and downs. Fame is like a dream. Wealth can be like the frost in September. Life is full of unanticipated changes. No one can go through your life’s journey in your place of birth, aging, being sick and death. Only you can understand how you feel, and how you deal with your ups and downs.

No need to pursue fame and fortune excessively ***

There is no need to pursue fame and fortune excessively, otherwise you will feel totally exhausted. What is more important is your health and happiness. After all, fame and fortune are not part of your body and they will not be attached to you forever. There is definitely no need to pursue them excessively. The most you can owe them is about several dozens of years in your lifetime.

Everyone’s knowledge has a limit ***

Remember there is always a higher mountain. You need to be polite and modest. You shouldn’t look down on everyone. Also you shouldn’t be impolite to people. Everybody’s knowledge has a limit. Unavoidably there may be times when matters are muddled. Whatever you do, you should always leave some room for negotiation otherwise, and you end up looking foolish.

Sometimes you may feel dispirited and you will find that time goes slowly. You lose interest in doing anything. Even if you try to do something, you seem to bump into many obstacles. In such a situation, it is better to take a leave of absence. Spend some time with friends and joke about the good old days. You may transform your unease into something exciting for you.

As long as you have a good conscience and never do anything that is injurious to others, you shouldn’t have any regrets in your life. So don’t feel guilty but be strong and move on.

No one can really understand this stress or know how to offer comfort.

Miracle ***

Miracles occur every day. Therefore there is no need to be overly worried. All you have to do is to keep a positive attitude and take care of your health. Take the prescribed medicines although you may not want to, even if they may be difficult to swallow. Although it is a hardship, medicine is good for you. Medicine will rejuvenate your body and your days of good health will soon return.

Don’t take on all of the work ***

Even if you are a superman, you can’t do all the work on your own. It is impossible that you can do it all. On the contrary, because of the workload, you may make a mess out of it. The best way to handle all the work is to split the workload among people. Find a capable partner, to work with you, and both of you will then be able to deliver the job on time.

Division of labor and cooperation ***

If you are willing to share your workload with others and cooperate with them to work as a team, your work life will be less stressful. You may even be in a happy mood and can produce twice the amount of work with the same amount of effort. There is no benefit in doing all the work on your own. Just think, even if you leave your job, your company will still be able to survive without you.

Three different kinds of smile ***

Different people may have different views on how many different kinds of smile there are in one’s life. When you are a child, you may like to open your mouth and smile. When you become a youngster, you laugh loudly. When you are old, you sometimes have a bitter smile. These are the three different kinds of smile at different stages of your life. But, a big laughter can turn back to become a sweet smile. Only a bitter smile remains inside you and only you know what is happening in your life.

Sadness ***

How much sadness do you experience? How many times have you been drunk thinking that you can overcome your sadness by excessive drinking? Actually drinking doesn’t help remove your sadness. If you haven’t solved the root cause of your sadness, drinking can only make you sadder. Why do you worry and become sad? Why don’t you forget the things that make you sad and enjoy something else at this very moment?

You are in our prayers and
We wish you speedy recovery

You will leave your pain behind ***

Life is ever-changing. Don’t be angry because you are sick. Being angry will affect the condition of your health. In reality, being angry means being afraid to face reality. It doesn’t do yourself any good. Why don’t you change your attitude and maintain an optimistic view to handle your illness? This way, you will be able to leave your pain behind.

You must win the battle ***

Don’t be a slave to your illness. Don’t be the servant of your illness but be the master of your own self. Don’t allow your illness to master your life and control how you live your life. You must control your own destiny. Be positive and fight for your life. You ultimately will be a victor and win your battle.

You are in our prayers and
We wish you speedy recovery

The temptation to complain ***

Continuously suffering pain day by day either physically or psychologically is like eating the rhizome of Chinese goldthread. The bitter taste is beyond description. No one can understand what you are going through under these circumstances. Actually there aren’t many people in this world who are willing to deliver charcoal to keep people warm; but there are many people who are delighted to deliver flowers to celebrate people’s promotions. What you really should do is to make sure you have a positive attitude and be at ease in handling your current difficult time.

You control your own destiny ***

People have gatherings and separations. A moon can be half or full. The wind can be strong or weak. The sea can be calm or have big waves. Life has its ups and downs. When faced with adversity, you must be positive. As long as you are in control of your own destiny, you can choose the result of your destiny.

Some day I will eliminate you ***

It is extremely annoying that I can’t eliminate my illness by now. Some day I will eliminate it. I will not despair and will not give up. I will continue to do everything possible to fight against my illness. I will not accept any failure but only permit success. I have confidence that Almighty God will not let me down and ultimately I will beat my illness into submission.

Conquer your sickness ***

As long as you can live for one day, you have one day worth of strength. You should tell yourself that you will do everything you can to conquer your illness. If you cannot conquer it today, tomorrow you will continue to do the same. Ultimately you will conquer your illness.

How to handle adversity? ***

Living in today’s environment, it is not uncommon that you may be faced with adversity. At this moment, your best bet is to think of the people who support you and back you up. Because of this, you shouldn’t be afraid to face adversity. You must struggle till the end with a smile. If you have the right attitude, you will overcome adversity with no major negative consequence.

It’s better to forget ***

Life is full of unpleasant events. There is a Chinese saying 8 or 9 events out of 10 are unpleasant events. Why are you so stubborn that you focus on the unpleasant events and pay no attention to the other pleasant ones? It is better to forget the unpleasant events and only remember the pleasant ones. If you do that, you will be a happier person.

A gentleman ***

If you don’t behave like a gentleman, how can you expect to win the respect of others? You must keep your word and you must do what you preach. You must be loyal to people, exercise self-restraint, abide by your own rituals and live a normal life. Only then, will you be respected as a gentleman.

Measured by justice ***

To be a good person, you must be careful about what you say and what you do. Whatever you say has to be the truth. You shouldn’t tell lies. Whatever you do, you must think it over thoroughly before you take any action. Don’t do anything violating the law and don’t keep company with the wrong group of people or commit any crimes. You must use justice as the measurement for your action.

What you do has nothing to do with heaven ***

People at times may be superstitious and believe that destiny is predetermined. In reality, what you will become is not predetermined. If you are willing to study hard, you will enhance your knowledge. Even Almighty God can’t change that. But if you waste your time and don’t study hard, your Almighty God can’t make you into an intelligent and competent person.

Everything comes from you ***

Don’t be superstitious and believe everything about your destiny has already written. Whatever you have achieved, has nothing to do with your destiny. If you work hard to make a living and are prudent with your finances, heaven can’t make you hungry. But if you are not careful with your money and waste it on unnecessary and frivolous items, heaven can’t make you a wealthy man. Everything comes from you.

Who is your biggest enemy? ***

Determine if you have accumulated a lot of grievances inside yourself. You hate your job and you envy your colleagues. You are discontented with everything around you and you think everyone is your enemy. You lose your temper without any reason. No wonder everyone thinks you are your own enemy.

Accept reality gracefully ***

When faced with a situation that cannot be changed, what you can do is to change your point of view. Try to be content with what you’ve got and don’t complain about what you haven’t got. In this way, you will find your days are more relaxing. As long as you are willing to accept gracefully what heaven has given you, you will feel peaceful at heart and your life will be a pleasant one.

Patience ***

King Yuet, because of his willingness to endure being humiliated by King Ng and was willing to taste the bitterness of a gall bladder to remind him of that humiliation that he ultimately defeated King Ng. People should remember if they don’t have patience, they may ruin a good opportunity. Be patient with everything you do, you then avoid getting into troubles.

Enduring humiliation ***

As soon as you mention about enduring humiliation, most Chinese people remember the historical story about King Yuet who sleeps on branches and tastes a gall bladder to remind him he has to endure humiliation. At the appropriate time, enduring humiliation is a test of moral fiber. Don’t let your temporarily anger destroy your relationship with people to the degree of no return. Anger can cause both being emotionally hurt.

Some people are born with a kind heart. They like to help the disabled, the elderly and young children. They believe in doing one good deed everyday. People will admire you if you can do that. Certainly they will consider you as a big hero.

Avoid doing harmful deeds and perform good deeds ***

Regardless of whether you think you were born with a kind heart or a malign disposition, both of these contradictory natures can be directed to do good. As long as you are willing to develop your good character and abide the rituals and morals that are constructive, and not be influenced by the external temptations, you can overcome your impulse to do harm, and perform good deeds.

Appearing being weak ***

Appearing being weak does not mean you are weak. Definitely it doesn't mean you can't be strong. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to barge ahead and fight without any going through a careful consideration. Appearing to be weak may help you struggle through the difficult times. Being strong on your point of view may make you fail. Appearing weak may ultimately help you win the battle.

Defeat a superior enemy ***

Everyone should know when to stop instead of continuously barging forward. In order to get control of a situation, you don’t need to make the first move to attack people. What you should do is to analyze the situation with a clear mind. Find out the weakness of your opponent and then you can attack your opponent by surprise. Doing so will help you defeat your superior enemy.

Tell yourself no need to be calculating ***

When you are being wrongly accused for something you didn’t do, don’t be depressed but be positive in dealing with it. Quietly tell yourself that you don’t need to be calculating with people but be a little forgiving. Proudly face the mirror and say, ”I can lift something heavy and I can lay it down.”

The truth ***

Because you don’t know the truth, you end up misreading things. You may even make mistakes. Of course, your mistakes may cause pain. Therefore you must look at all matters in detail and use your wisdom to help you analyze the situation. Make sure you really know the truth before you make any decision.
