Active and passive.   ***

Take the initiative to be the leader of doing everything. Don’t be the passive one, otherwise you will lose control to the opposite party.

Opportunities come every day.   ***

Title :  Distant Wedding 

After a long distance call with my fiancée, May, my tears poured down from my cheeks

We are scheduled to get married in April 2021. We already booked a wedding party at a hotel for 80 Guests. Our professional wedding planner already found a photographer and booked a church for us. 

May’s chosen wedding dress from Paris should arrive here by the end of February.  I could imagine how beautiful  she would be wearing that dress. 

We spent days arguing about the wedding dinner menu. Looking back it was totally ridiculous and worthless. 

With all we have prepared for our wedding and she ended up being sick visiting her parents in Germany. 

May told me over the phone that she has some dry cough and lost her smell. I had a sense that she might be much worse but you did not want to worry me. 

My tears continued pouring down from my cheeks.

 與我的未婚妻（May）長途通話後，我的眼淚從我的臉頰上流下來。

 我們計劃於2021年4月結婚。我們已經預訂了80家賓客參加婚禮的酒店。 我們專業的婚禮策劃師已經為我們找到了攝影師，並為我們預訂了教堂。

 從巴黎挑選的婚紗應於2月底到達這裡。 我可以想像May穿上那件嫁衣是多麼美麗。

 我們花了幾天時間爭吵婚宴菜單。 回顧過去，這簡直是荒謬而毫無價值。

 通過我們辛苦為婚禮準備的一切，她最終在德國拜訪父母時生病了。

 她通過電話告訴我，只得乾咳嗽，和失去了氣味。 我覺得她們可能會病得更糟，但她不想告訴我，免我擔憂。

Those who are lack of love for what they are doing, are unlikely to get sincere support from others.  Therefore, without such enthusiasm they will inevitably fail.

Don't be impatient and mess around but energize themselves to get ready to handle the situation. .

不等待机遇降临

而是去找尋机遇

Look for opportunities.    ***

Be your own master. Don’t be one's own slave. Don't just wait for opportunities but look for opportunities.

  "Who is singing outside?" I asked.

  "There is a man who sings all day." My wife replied.

  "Give him some money and send him home. It's cold outside."

  "He is not a homeless person." My wife said.  "The hospital staff came out to persuade him to leave many times."

  "What happened then?" I asked.

  "His wife lives in the hospital opposite us. She is a COVID patient. The hospital does not allow any visitors. He thinks singing his wife's favorite song outside the hospital will help her heal faster.” 

  "If I was hospitalized, would you sing for me?"

  "You know I can't sing."

REView ! Nov 6. (Online Book Club) 

I enjoyed the English/Chinese translation side by side throughout the book. It allows me to spend a little time looking up Chinesecharacters and identifying a few. All three chapters were a pleasure to read and to allow the Buddhist philosophy to soak in. And I shall revisit them for a more in-depth understanding of how to be happy and contribute to society.

Family values are promoted, and it tells you what to do in any family role you may have; father, son, older brother or younger brother, etc. And it stresses that people have choices; that is the undercurrent of this philosophy, your own choice to be a happy, good, productive member of society.

Life is short, so choose to be

A happy life requires a lot of hard work. Failure happens to everyone, so accept them as a learning experience and grow in wisdom. Learn to be calm – from a calm base; you can manage your situation better. Be in control of yourself and return good for evil. Good deeds lead to good results, so always be ready to do a good deed. Do not dwell on a slight or insult; let it go. Hope is there for all of us. We can all solve problems if we think about it hard enough.
